Zoubayda : A brilliant pharmacist shaping the Future Through Erasmus Mundus

Who is Zoubayda ?

Zoubayda is a passionate and driven individual who completed her baccalaureate in Physics and Chemistry before spending two years at the Faculty of Sciences and Technology in Marrakech (FSTG), focusing on Biology, Chemistry, and Geology. She then passed the entrance exam to the Faculty of Medicine and Pharmacy in Rabat, where she pursued her Pharmacy studies and earned her Doctorate in Pharmacy in 2021 with the highest distinction.

How the Erasmus Mundus Joint Master (EMJM) Changed your Life ?

Being accepted into the European Master’s in Translational Cosmetic and Dermatological Sciences, funded by an Erasmus+ scholarship, marked the beginning of a transformative journey. The first year in Italy introduced me to the dynamic dermatological research industry and innovative dermocosmetics. Although I was initially uncertain about how to apply this knowledge, I recognized the need to explore various paths to uncover my true passion.

In my second year, I specialized in Biomedical Sciences and Clinical Research Management in Belgium, aligning perfectly with my pharmacy background. This program expanded my horizons, allowing me to attend conferences and networking events across Italy, Belgium, France, Germany, and Denmark. I had the privilege of leading and managing over five projects in collaboration with companies from Belgium and the Netherlands. One standout project was with Decathlon Belgium, where I refined my leadership and versatility—skills I now consider vital.

Through this experience, my mission became clear: to bridge the gap between clinical research and the commercialization of late-stage therapies, ultimately improving patient access to innovative treatments. My goal is to make a lasting impact by fostering sustainable public health solutions in both Morocco and Europe.

What are your achievements ?

The program was rigorous and diverse, requiring considerable dedication. I successfully completed all my courses with excellent grades. In Belgium, I had the opportunity to add a minor in New Product Development and Launch, fueling my passion for business and entrepreneurship. This led to my selection as part of the organizing committee for a major service management and business development event, where I collaborated with esteemed professors from U.S. universities and helped host over 100 attendees.

During my internship as a Clinical Data Analyst at a research institute in Belgium, I contributed to projects in public health and clinical epidemiology. Four research papers from this work are set to be published soon. I also had the privilege of working with a leading researcher in Sarcopenia management, who is considered a pioneer in this field. The skills I gained during this internship will be instrumental in pursuing my dream job.

Equally rewarding were the friendships I forged throughout the program. I now have close connections with people from over 20 countries, with whom I traveled across Europe, exploring new cultures, countries, and cuisines. These relationships are some of my most cherished achievements.

What is your advice for future students ?

To pharmacy students, I would say that our field is incredibly versatile, offering a multitude of career paths. If the traditional route doesn’t feel like the right fit, don’t hesitate to explore alternatives. Research your options and apply for opportunities that align with your passions and goals. Pharmacy is a field that opens doors to many roles within life sciences.

Applying for opportunities takes time and effort, so focus on building a strong portfolio. Participate in diverse projects, extracurricular activities, and develop specific skills that will set you apart. The application process may be lengthy—it took me nearly 9 months and three rounds of interviews—but the rewards are well worth the effort.

LAST WORD ?

Don’t settle for less than what you deserve. Be persistent, take the leap, and make your dreams a reality. You’ve got this!
